Vein and Lymph Conditions

Frequently Asked Questions

I have leg cramps, especially at night. Could this be due to varicose veins?

Yes, nighttime leg cramps can be linked to varicose veins due to poor circulation and increased pressure in the legs. Blood pooling from weakened vein valves can cause muscle irritation and cramping, especially after prolonged standing or inactivity. If symptoms persist, a specialist consultation is recommended.

Could I Have a Vein Problem Without Visible Varicose Veins?

Yes! If you experience leg tiredness, heaviness, or swelling, but don’t see any visible veins, you may still have an underlying vein condition. In cases of "Hidden varicose veins", patients can develop venous insufficiency without noticeable varicose or spider veins.

The good news is that this condition is treatable, and with the right diagnosis and care, you can restore healthy circulation and relieve discomfort.

Do Compression Stockings Treat Varicose Veins?

Compression stockings do not cure varicose veins, but they can help manage symptoms by improving circulation and reducing swelling, discomfort, and leg fatigue. They are often recommended for symptom relief, post-treatment support, or prevention of further vein deterioration. For long-term results, surgical treatments are usually required.

Do I Need Time Off After Vein Treatment?

For majority of  patients, vein treatment is performed as a day-case or outpatient procedure, allowing you to walk in and walk out the same day. While some mild discomfort may occur in the treated area, it typically does not interfere with daily activities, and most patients can resume their normal routine without significant downtime.

Is Vein Treatment Painful?

The level of discomfort varies depending on the type of treatment. Some procedures, such as Laser and Radiofreuqency Ablation, are performed under local anaesthesia, which numbs the treatment area, while others, like micro-sclerotherapy, require no anaesthesia at all. Most patients experience little to no pain during the procedure. However, for those who prefer, treatments can be performed under general anaesthesia (being asleep) to ensure maximum comfort.

I Have Swollen Legs – Could It Be Due to Varicose Veins?

While venous insufficiency is a common cause of leg swelling, other conditions such as lymphedema, and systemic issues like heart or kidney failure may also contribute to fluid retention. A comprehensive vascular assessment is essential to determine the underlying cause.

At Dr. Soroush Sohrabi’s clinics, we provide a thorough evaluation to accurately diagnose the reason for your leg swelling and recommend the most effective treatment plan.
